Lewis CAMMACK

Cammack Cemetery
Ashley County,
Arkansas

In the book "Tombstone Inscriptions and Notes of Ashley County Arkansas"
the Cammack Cemetery lists only 1 burial, that of Lewis Cammack, born September 9, 1811 & Died August 31, 1872.

The book states, "The only known stone in this burial ground is just north of the old Cammack home site, on land owned by a Commack descendant, Ida Mae Gregory Norsworthy (Mrs W.H.). Go east from Portland to the intersection of Highway #165 and State Highway #278, continue east on #278 approximately 3.5 miles. The cemetery is located on the edge of Dry Bayou in a dense thicket."

Published 1992 in Crossett, Arkansas.
Since that time, Lewis Cammack's original tombstone has been moved to Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, located on Berea Road near Snyder, Arkansas.
Evidently his headstone was moved there and placed on a grave plot beside his wife's where a newer double headstone was erected for both Harriet and Lewis. I do not know if his body was moved. The headstone was moved there sometime after the surveying of cemeteries was done for the book.
Hence, this cemetery is no longer marked and the exact location is a mystery.
