Judith Elizabeth Hawksley Funderburg was born March 1st, 1946, to the late Maxine Katherine and Donald Hawksley in Streator, Illinois. She passed away December 23rd surrounded by her family at home. A celebration on life will be held for her on Friday the 27th from 6-8 at Circle of life in Springdale. There will be a graveside service on Saturday the 28th at the Bluff cemetery in Springdale at 11:00am.
Her family moved from Streator to Mountain Home, Arkansas, and opened the first boat dock (Oaklawn) on Bull Shoals Lake, before relocating to Rogers, Arkansas, and opening Prairie Creek Marina. At that time, Judy started her junior year at Rogers High School, where she became a cheerleader, was voted Ms. Merry Christmas, and became Senior Maid in the Homecoming Court. Judy met many of her lifelong friends during her time at Rogers High School. She received an academic scholarship to UCA in the Fall of 1965. This is where she met her husband of over 52 years, Danny Funderburg. They were married February 4th, 1967. They resided in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she worked in the insurance business. They relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 3½ years, and in that time they had their first child, Clay, in 1972. They then spent time back in Little Rock and Rogers, as well as Fort Smith, and had their daughter, Ashley, in 1977. They finally settled down in Springdale in 1986.
Judy had many passions in life, but none bigger than her family. She was not only a mother to her own kids, but to so many others. She made everyone feel loved and appreciated. She was always an amazing listener. She went above and beyond when it came to holidays and birthdays, when she showered those close to her with love. She was a home room mom every year and Springdale High School’s first and only swim coach. We will forever miss the days she checked us out of school to take us shopping for the day. She enjoyed traveling, water skiing, and taking long rides. She had a deep love for animals and for fresh flowers. She could spot a deer from a mile away. She was the finder of all things lost. No matter what, she always found a lost item. She was wickedly good at cards, and as some of you know, perhaps a bit too good. She had deadeye aim, even winning a Daisy airgun shooting competition as a child. She had the best smile, that sometimes showed when she was up to no good, and an infectious laugh. She will be missed by all.
Judy is survived by her husband, Danny Funderburg of Springdale, Arkansas; brother, Don Hawksley of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Clay Funderburg and his wife Jobina of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Ashley Lee and her husband Judson Lee of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and grandsons, Collin Funderburg, Liam Lee, Noel Lee, Luke Lee and Gray Lee.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Martin, her brother, Jimmy Hawksley, and her first child, baby Funderburg.
Pallbearers will be Collin Funderburg, Ray Ball, Ronnie Ball, Judson Lee, Scott Funderburg, and Charles Crawford.
Alternate Pallbearers: Rob Brewer, Ruston Smith, Todd Hawksley and Matt Fairchild.
