VAN BUREN — John R. Longmate, 95, formerly of Lowell, Ark., died Oct. 27, 2018, in Van Buren, Ark.

He was a retired driver for Jones Truck Lines of Springdale, and former deacon at First Baptist Church, Springdale. He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Trevor Longmate, sisters, Mabel Howard and Ellen Martin and brother Arthur Longmate.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nadell of the home, two sons and their wives, Robert and Cindy Longmate of Combs, Ark., Richard and Kim Longmate of Alma, Ark.; four grandchildren, Merry Ann Barnes of Springdale, Julie Rose of Cave Springs, Rachel Ann and Trent Richardson Longmate, both of Alma; three great grandchildren, Gracie Young, Brianne Rose, and Lennis Rose III all of Cave Springs.

Viewing with no formal visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at the Edwards Van Alma Funeral Home, Van Buren, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Moore's Chapel, Fayetteville, on Monday, October 29, 2018.

A private immediate family interment, at a later date, will be at Bluff Cemetery, Springdale under the direction of Edwards Van Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Honorary pallbearer will be his good friend and former neighbor, Jerry Osborne.

The family has requested memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Alma's youth program, P.O. Box 819, Alma, Ark., 72921, in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to thank his caregiver, Darla McAlister, Peachtree Hospice and Legacy Heights, Van Buren for their excellent care in his final months and days.
