Charlene Baker, age 90, of Glenwood, died Monday, October 17, 2011.
She was born on October 10, 1921, at Amity, the daughter of Jasper Earl Herring and Dora Adams Herring.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Baker; her daughter, Kathy Stavley; her brother, Jack Herring; and her daughter-in-law, Denise Baker.
Charlene and Bob were married on April 5, 1944. Bob was riding an Army troop train across country and it happened to make a stop in Malvern. Charlene met the train at the station and they were married. In a short time, Bob was leaving the station and back on that troop train. Charlene was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Baker and his wife, Linda, of Conway and Mike Baker of Glenwood; six grandchildren, Monica Baker, Jason Baker, Robbie Stavley, Mark Stavley, Kimberly Baker and Kevin Baker and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Shewbert and Bro. Jackie Herring officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be Don Baker, David Baker, George Baker, R. J. Hughes, Eddie Stavley and Eddie Herring.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Association, PO Box 1433, Glenwood, Arkansas 71943.
