Judith Ann (Judy) Jackson, age 69 died of pancreatic cancer on March 19th in St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. She was a native of Waldo, Arkansas and was born on July 31, 1943, the daughter of the late John Samuel Jackson and Gladys Burchfield Jackson (Gleason). She lived in Waldo, Magnolia, or Little Rock most of her life. She was a Social Worker who retired from the State of Arkansas. Her last assignment with the state was as a Hospice worker.
Judy is survived by her son, Samuel R. Jackson who is a second year Medical Student at UAMS. Sam spent the last two years helping care for his mother while also meeting the rigorous demands of medical school. In this he was also assisted by the staff at the Woodland Hills Nursing Home, Hospice of Arkansas and the doctors and staff of the UAMS and St. Vincent Hospital. Sam and the family would like to thank all of them for their professional and kind care of his mother during her illness.
Judy is also survived by her brother and his wife, John and Nancy Jackson of Carbondale, Illinois and their children Jill E. Jackson of Madison, Wisconsin and Jeffrey C. Jackson of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Included in the extended family are many aunts, uncles, and cousins on the Burchfield and Jackson sides of the house. In Magnolia those include her uncles, Joe Ben Burchfield and Milton W. Burchfield and her aunt, Louise Inscore, and cousins Joe (and Debbie) Inscore, Cindy (and I. J.) Bourne (formerly of Magnolia and now of Homer, Louisiana). Vickie Burchfield, Norma Castleberry, Carol Mecham and Susan Teer of El Dorado, Jim (and Joan) Jackson, formerly of Magnolia and now of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Bill Boswell and a much longer list of cousins in Texarkana, Houston, and several other cities in Texas and Louisiana.
Judy was a 1964 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia where she roomed with Mary Riggins of Bethesda, Maryland, who became a life-long friend. She held the Master's degree in Gerontology from North Texas State University and the Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She used her professional training to help many other people, especially the elderly, while she was working.
Services will be at 2:00PM, Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in the Lamartine community north of Waldo under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Magnolia. Visitation will be at 1:00PM Sunday prior to service.
