When Harvey Virgil Gassaway was born on July 5, 1908, in Vilonia, Arkansas, his father, John, was 52 and his mother, Ada, was 29. He married Jane Elizabeth Gassaway on June 17, 1941, in Searcy, Arkansas. They had one child during their marriage. He died in October 1984 at the age of 76.
