Information from "Carroll County Arkansas Historical Society, "These were the first" compiled by Jim Lair, Contributed by, Gerry (Standlee) Buford and Gene Norris, Page 582: Huldah's mother died when she was three and then she saw her father shot down when she was ten.
Hulda was only fourteen years of age when she married and went with her husband to live on a farm four miles north of Berryville. Cyrus, or "Shad" as he was known to family and friends, was a farmer and he also served as one of the directors of the Black Jack School of Carroll County.
Then, during 1900, the railroad arrived in Carroll County and a community, called Urbanette, began to grow up just east of the Standlee homestead. Shad Standlee decided to erect a hotel and a livery stable in the new community and he and his wife moved to town. Shad built them a home just up from the railroad track and the two of them would spend the remainder of their lives there.
On March 14, 1925, Hulda (Hayhurst) Standlee left her home to go to the Urbanette general store to purchase a chimney for a lamp and to pick up the mail. On her way home she was preoccupied over receiving a letter from her daughter, Callie, and she caught her foot on the railroad track as she crossed them. As fate would have it, a train was coming and it hit Hulda before the engineer could stop. She died a few hours later and the family laid her to rest in the Blackjack Cemetery.
After Hulda's death, the family sued the railroad but lost their case. Cyrus Standlee never really recovered from the shock of Hulda's death and he died May 27, 1926, and he was buried beside his wife.

Saturday. Both of her feet were severed and she was otherwise bruised and injured, and lived but four hours after the accident happened. The accident occurred at the railroad crossing in Urbanette just as the train was pulling into the station, and it is said the deceased was apparently hurrying to get across before the train reached the crossing. Deceased lived in Urbanette and leaves a husband and several children.
