Police: Man killed by train from Bella Vista

FAYETTEVILLE — Riley O'Mara, 31, of Bella Vista was run over and killed by a train Saturday, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Witnesses said they saw O'Mara laying on the train track near Zenith Loop about 5 p.m. Saturday, emergency officials said. O'Mara seemed to have heard the slow-moving train coming and tried to get off the tracks but couldn't move out of the way in time, said Sgt. Anthony Murphy, police spokesman.

O'Mara was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center where he died, said Becky Stewart, Central EMS chief.

Murphy said the death could have been a suicide.

A homeless camp is located nearby, but police did not know if O'Mara was homeless. He was alone on the track, Murphy said.
