When Alexander Z "Tobe" Strayhorn was born on October 8, 1867, in Arkansas, his father, William, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 31. He married Mary Agnes Cofer-Strayhorn on May 12, 1889. They had nine children in 19 years. He died on January 23, 1964, in his hometown at the age of 96, and was buried in White, Arkansas.
