When Reed William Strayhorn was born on August 30, 1903, in Arkansas, his father, Alexander, was 35 and his mother, Mary, was 34. He had six brothers and three sisters. He died on August 24, 1980, in Searcy, Arkansas, at the age of 76, and was buried in Pleasant Grove, Arkansas.
