Charles Lloyd Harrison, age 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Friday May 20, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born August 1, 1934 in Camden, Arkansas to James Lloyd and Janie Barlow Harrison. Charles grew up in Camden surrounded by wonderful friends who have remained close throughout his lifetime. He graduated from Camden High School in 1952, attending Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas, graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1957 with a BSChE. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 through 1959 on active duty. He served in the Army Reserve for 6 years attaining the rank of Captain. During his 40 years of service with International Paper Company from 1956 through 1996 he worked at mills in Camden, AR, Vicksburg, MS, Natchez, MS, Louisiana Mill in Bastrop, LA and the Mansfield mill. He managed the Bastrop mill and the Mansfield mill. Charles loved his Razorbacks and they traveled to Fayetteville for every home game for many years. Trips to Florida were a joy for him as well as visiting extended family around the country. He loved fishing and working around the camp at White Oak Lake to make the place look beautiful. Charles was blessed in life with devoted friends and wonderful neighbors. They were all very special to him and he wanted them to know that he loved them very much. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Freeland. He is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Virginia, son Jeffrey, daughters Karen Strebeck and Linda Harrison; daughter, Cathy Ward and son Thomas {Buddy} Slaughter. He was grandfather to 6 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 9 and wanted his family and friends to know how much he loved them. Pallbearers will be Willard Baker, Jimmy Ledbetter, David Watts, Parker Stevens, James Howard and John McAlister. Services will be in Proctor's Chapel at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 24, conducted by Joe Waggener with scripture readings by Jerry Arrington. Visitation will be from 6 pm until 8 pm, Monday, May 23.
