Ben Gene GARNER

Memorial Park Cemetery
Ouachita County,
Arkansas

July 11, 1949 - February 25, 2018

Ben Garner went peacefully to heaven February 25th at home with his loving wife by his side. Ben was born July 11th,1949 in Camden, Arkansas to Marvin and Marcille Garner. Ben was 68 years old and was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Garner; son Clay Knox of Prescott, AR; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Bryan Bixler of Texarkana, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Spencer Knox of Camden, AR; daughter Brooke Garner of Camden, AR; nine grandchildren, Dylan Knox, Lacy Knox, Madelyn Bixler, Kathryn Bixler, Kasin Vallejos, Liza Knox, Rylie Bixler, Leyton Blackwood, and Cruz Knox.

Garner was a husband, daddy, papaw, friend and lifelong resident of Camden, Arkansas. He loved HIS Nancy, the yellow house on Washington, and a nice heavy starched shirt. He found joy in helping others, politicking around town, and the highlight of his life, serving as Ouachita County Sheriff. Everything he did, he did to the hilt, even his lawnmower was chromed out and armoralled up. He was the only person we know that detailed his tractor after every use. He always insisted things be done the best way and not just the quickest or easiest. His stories always began with, “This is the truth.” He changed cars almost as often as he remowed freshly cut grass. He loved preparing for deer season more than actually hunting. He wanted the best for his family, friends and even someone he had just met. He cherished the Camden community and served it fondly through lifelong citizenship, volunteerism, and as a public official. No one could make the grandkids smile or laugh as much as their hambone. He would follow them around, even when walking was painful and almost impossible. He defied the normal, overcame more than anyone should have to, and fought hard and strong up to his very last moment. There is no way anyone could fill his boots, work a room the way he could, or wave genuinely to everyone he met on the road. He will be greatly, dearly, and deeply missed by his family. The earthy body filled with pain and weakness is no more and he now is pain free, renewed in the Lord and being embraced by the Savior.

Services will be held at Cullendale First Baptist Church, Tuesday February 27th at 10:00 a.m. Graveside to immediately follow at Memorial Park. Visitation on Monday, February 26th at Proctor Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00.
