Vida Jenett Esmeyer, aged 86, died Saturday March 24, 2012.

Visitation will be Tuesday March 27 from 4 to 8 pm at Root Funeral Home in Michigan City, Indiana. Funeral will take place at Jackson Funeral Home in Newport, Arkansas on Saturday March 31 at 2 pm. Flowers can be called in to Purdys in Arkansas at 870-523-5872.

Vida was born November 5, 1925 in Union Hill Arkansas to Earl and Jewel Mc Dougal. She married Leon Esmeyer on February 27, 1942 and gave birth to ten children.

Vida was an expert seamstress and made numerous wedding gowns for her family. She was also a great cook and worked tirelessly to care for and raise her family. She was instrumental in founding Village Green Baptist Church in Michigan City where she worked for years in the nursery. Vida was known as Grandma not only to her 30 grandchildren, but also to the many children she babysat and to the ones she taught in the church nursery. She dedicated her life to God and made sure she shared the love of Christ.

Vida is survived by nine children: Temple Esmeyer, Larry (Evelyn) Esmeyer, Sandra (Bobby) Taylor, Linda Esmeyer, Barbara (Jimmy) Cagle, Frandy (Pat) Esmeyer, Randy (Debra) Esmeyer, Marcus Esmeyer, and Rosie (Phil) Lawrence. She is also survived by two brothers: Cletus (Dorothy) Mc Dougal, Dewayne (Vivian) Mc Dougal, and one sister: Molly Alice Sanders. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister and by her husband Leon. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Leona Esmeyer, three grandsons: Sampson Phipps, Timothy Esmeyer, and William Bentley, one great grand-daughter Carley Green, and two great-great grandsons.
