Lawrence "Larry"
US Navy
World War II
1925 - 2017

Lawrence (Larry) R. Britton, 92, of Searcy entered his eternal home on November 22, 2017. He was born in Colt, AR on June 4, 1925, and was the son of James Worth and Venora Thompson Britton. Lawrence enjoyed serving others, and that was evident through many facets of his life. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy on the USS NASSAU and the USS Scout in the Pacific. Lawrence ministered to others for 62 years as a Baptist preacher and evangelist, leading nine churches and speaking at many revivals throughout the state. His last pastorate was at Baptist Tabernacle Church, where his membership remained. Lawrence’s service extended to the public through his accounting business, Britton Bookkeeping. Lawrence loved his family, and they loved and adored him. He was wise, compassionate and eager to help when he saw a need. Lawrence had a beautiful tenor voice and always had a song on his heart. There was rarely a time when he came through his back door without singing or whistling. A natural storyteller, Lawrence had a knack for keeping everyone in stitches as he painted memorable pictures of his life experiences. His story will continue to be told by those who love him. What a blessing it has been to love and be loved by him. Upon his entrance into Heaven, Lawrence was reunited with his wife of 48 years, Virginia Geraldine (Jerri) Britton, his parents, his brothers Rudolph, Leonard, and Boyd, and his sisters, Maxine, Minta, and Helen, as well as a host of other family members and friends. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lenora Johnson Britton; his son, Ronnie (Shell) Britton of Searcy, his daughter, Brenda (Tommy) Cranford of Searcy, his step-daughters, LeNee Johnson Self of Conway, Leisha Johnson Slaughter of Prospect, KY and step-son, LaRon (Valerie) Johnson of Clarendon; his grandchildren, Jenny (Brett) Roberson, Brandy (James) Creasy, Lance (Tiffany) Britton, and Katie (Justin) Lawson, Morgan (Hannah) Self, Bryson Self, Summer, Samantha, and Skylar Slaughter, and Luke, Logan, and Lacey Johnson; ten great-grandchildren, Caleb, Haley, Courtney, Isaiah, Mary Evelyn, Grant, Caroline, Noah, Allie Kate, and Abby; two great-great grandchildren, Peyton and Maddox; his sister, Elizabeth Britton Gregory, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude for those who helped Lawrence throughout his illness, specifically Dr. David Hatfield, Dr. Cheryl Payne, Dr. Tim Killough, Dr. William Robertson, and the staffs of AR Hospice, CARTI, and Unity Health. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and services will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at White County Memorial Gardens following the service.
