Private Bevill's body is being returned from Okinawa for burial here. He was killed by a sniper on Okinawa, May 16, 1945. Prior to entering service March 15, 1941, he was engaged in farming near Gosnell, where he was born and had lived for 23 years. He was graduated from Gosnell High School, and had completed a business course at the Oxford Institution in Chicago, Illinois. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Gosnell.

The holder of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and two combat stars, Private Bevill had been overseas nine months and in combat less than two months when he was killed. He was in the initial landing on Okinawa, as a part of the 96th Division.

Survivors other than his parents include two brothers, Andy and Clifton Bevill; six sisters, Mrs. John Bolin, Mrs. Inez Gentry, Mrs. James Nierstheimer, Mrs. Bill Wagon, Mrs. Glin Harrison Jr., and Miss Margie Bevill, all of Blytheville.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Bevill, Dewitt Van Gleve, J.T. Karnes, Garland Moody, Frank Perkins and Tommy Hayner.

The Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Elvis Bevill and a sister, Margaret Bevill.
