Virginia Irene GAMMILL

Holy Innocents Cemetery
Chicot County,
Arkansas

September 5, 1930 - August 1, 2019

Virginia Irene Gammill, 88, died August 1, 2019, in Niceville, Florida. Irene was born on September 5, 1930, in Simsboro, Louisiana, to Johnny Hawkins Fuller and Mary Ann (Dennis) Fuller. Interestingly, the physician who attended Irene’s birth, Dr. J.L. Wade, is the same physician who would later conduct the postmortem exams on the infamous criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde.
Irene graduated from Rayville High School in 1947. On October 1, 1949, she married Marvin Lilburn Gammill of Rayville, Louisiana. Irene and Lilburn lived for many years in Lake Village, Arkansas and for several years in Greenville, Mississippi.
During those years, Irene worked for several banks in various capacities: teller, loan officer, public
relations, and branch manager. Her fondest career memories were forged during her time in Lake Village with First State Bank (later to become Simmons First Bank). After retirement, Irene and Lilburn moved to Bluewater Bay, Florida.
Irene was a lifelong, committed Christian, who was well known for her friendliness and generous hospitality. She and Lilburn were active members of Southside Baptist Church in Lake Village, Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, First Baptist Church in Lake Village, and First Baptist Church in Niceville, Florida.
Irene was also devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Marvin Lilburn Gammill; her daughter Virginia Darlene Felts; her daughter and son-in-law Libby Gammill Swain and Michael Swain; her grandchildren Dru Swain (and wife, Brittany), Christopher Felts, and Paul Swain (and wife, Blakely); and her great-grandchildren Susan, Jackson, and Sawyer (Dru’s and Brittany’s children). Irene is also survived by her sister, Joan Antley, and her brother, John Fuller (and wife, Sunny), and her nieces and nephews. Irene is predeceased by her parents; her granddaughter Katie
Felts; and her son-in-law Lynn Felts.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 6, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Innocents Cemetery in Lake Village. Arrangements by Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village, Arkansas.
