When Mary Ethel Byrd was born on September 4, 1915, in Steprock, Arkansas, her father, Parks, was 43, and her mother, Emma, was 39. She married Howell Clarence Lewis on October 6, 1934. They had one child during their marriage. She died on April 7, 1998, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, at the age of 82.
