COURTNEY, Mrs. Ben L. (KARNES) - Mrs. Ben L. Courtney committed suicide at her home in West Fork Tuesday of last week, using a razor with which to sever the jugular vein in her throat, death being almost instantaneous. The body was discovered by her husband about 12 o'clock of that day. The act was due to despondency over continued ill-health. Funeral services were held from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will A. Karnes, south of West Fork, Wednesday. Aside from the parents and husband the deceased leaves two small sons. The deceased was at one time a resident of the Gentry community, having removed from this place about three or four years ago.

COURTNEY, Pearl CARNES - Fayetteville, Ark., Nov. 2.— Mrs. Pearl Carnes Courtney, about 35 years old, ended her own life at her home here Tuesday by slashing her throat with a razor. She had apparently been dead for some time when her body was found by her husband, B.L. Courtney.

Despondency over ill health is believed to have been the cause of her act. Mrs. Courtney had been in ill health for some time and had been very despondent for a number of days, friends said. She left no note explaining her act. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Billy, 7 years old, and Joe, 10 years old; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Carnes of West Fork. Funeral arrangements had not been completed late Tuesday.
