Oscar Alwayne Hayes, aged 59, died early Monday morning in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born June 23, 1908 at Crockett's Bluff, Arkansas and had been a resident of the Harmony Grove Community since 1925. Mr. Hayes was a retired groceryman, a Mason and a Shriner and at the time of his death was associated with the Arkansas Gazette. He was a Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Jean Sharp Hayes; one daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Robinson of Harmony Grove; one sister, Mrs. Effie Hayes Bvard of Concord, Calif., and one brothers, Algie R. Hayes of Mineola, Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Park Hill Baptist Church in Harmony Grove. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Camden News - March 25, 1968)
