Joe B. Johnson, 86, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, with family at his side.
He was born July 20, 1931, to Oliver and Villa Johnson, and was the fifth son and sixth child.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Johnson Blanding, of Independence, Missouri; and four brothers, O.T. Johnson, of Benton, Johnny Johnson, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Charlie Johnson, Eugene Johnson, and Frank Johnson, all of Benton.
Joe grew up in Paron, where he graduated from high school. After graduation, he worked briefly in furniture manufacturing before joining Teletype (Lucent Technology/AT&T). He retired from Teletype after more than 30 years of service.
Joe married the love of his life, Ida Lou Dunn Johnson, on Oct. 14, 1967. From then on they enjoyed 50 1/2 years of wedded bliss.
He enjoyed going to antique shops, flea markets and estate sales. He never met a clock, or bicycle he didn't like or failed to collect.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Lou Dunn Johnson; for sisters-in-law, Francis Johnson, Earlene Johnson and Gussie Johnson, all of Benton, and Miyako Johnson, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Carroll Wayne Dunn and wife, Marty, of Little Rock, and William Dunn, of Tontitown; and sisters-in-law, Francis Dunn and Louise Dunn Silen, of Hampton.
He loved all of his numerous surviving nieces and nephews and was loved dearly by them. Joe was a Shriner and a member of Second Baptist Church on 8th and Scott, in Little Rock.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Benton Funeral Home in Hampton.
Funerals service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Faustina Methodist Church in Hampton, located at W. 278 Highway, where Joe and Ida were married.
The Rev. Charles Attebery and the Rev. Jeremy Langley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Dunn Cemetery of Hampton.
