Aged Citizen Passes Away D. C. Shaver Dies Suddenly in Springfield, Mo., Saturday.

Mr. David C. Shaver, one of this section's best known and most highly honored citizens, died suddenly at Springfield, Mo., last Saturday, May 24th at 7 p.m. and the remains were forwarded to this place for interment, arriving Monday afternoon.

Deceased was 74 years of age. He was born in Knox County, Tenn., and came to this section with his parents when about one year of age, they settling in this county near Oxford. When about grown he went to Sharp County, a short while afterwards being married to Miss Sally Taylor. They resided in Sharp and Jackson Counties a few years and later moved to Oxford, where they lived until 1904, in which year they moved to Calico Rock. Mr. Shaver was engaged in the Hotel business here until two years ago, when he sold out and retired. He was for several years one of the board of directors of the bank here and also had other business interests. Mr. Shaver served Izard County in the House of Representatives about 1878 and was the first to serve as Mayor of Calico Rock.

Deceased is survived by his wife, one brother, Jas. Shaver of Oxford and five sisters, Mrs. Metcalf and Mrs. Wm. Collins of Batesville, Mrs. Taylor of Evening Shade, Mrs. C. E. Taylor of Swifton and Mrs. Montgomery of Calico Rock.

Deceased was a member of the Mason Lodge, also the Royal Arch Chapter of same, which order conducted the remains to the cemetery and performed the usual burial rites. Burial took place in the Calico Rock Cemetery Tuesday after noon at three o'clock in the presence of a very large gathering of friends. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. E. Snell of Batesville.
