James E. Spaulding, age 91 of Little Rock passed away on the morning of Saturday, February 26, 2011 due to complications of pneumonia. He was born Saturday, May 17, 1919 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to the late Ira Lee and Mollie Pruitt Spaulding.
Mr. Spaulding was a loving husband and friend to his wife of 61 years, Eva Griggs Spaulding of Red Hill. He was a devoted caregiver to her during a long bout with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. She died in January 2000.
Mr. Spaulding was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Philippines during World War 2. He was a self-employed businessman. He loved to fish and was an avid Arkansas Razorback and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Mr. Spaulding was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his 3 brothers, Reland, Howard and Earl Spaulding. Just hours after his own death, Mr. Spaulding's son, Jim Spaulding of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away unexpectedly of an heart attack.
Mr. Spaulding is survived by his daughter, Kay Rector and husband Henry of Little Rock, daughter-in-law, Shirl Spaulding of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Jeff Spaulding of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Christina Ulferts and husband John of Rockford, Illinois, Suzi Barnes and husband Michael of Little Rock, Michael Walker and wife Misty of Little Rock; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, and William Ulferts of Rockford, Illinois, Sydney and Abbey Barnes and Whit Walker of Little Rock; 2 brothers, Joe Spaulding of Romance, Arkansas and Jack Spaulding of Searcy, Arkansas; 3 sisters-in-laws, Lola Glover of Searcy, Joy Felton of Artesia, Mew Mexico and Geraldine Berry of Middlebury, Indiana; other relatives and a host of friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation program and Odyssey Hospice for all of the extraordinary care and support given to Mr. Spaulding and his family.
The family suggests that memorials can be sent to Odyssey Hospice, 10800 Financial Centre Pkwy, Suite 380, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72211. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in the chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral home in Searcy with interment following the service at the White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy. No visitation is scheduled.
