When Verla Madeline Dickens was born on December 15, 1914, in West Point, Arkansas, her father, Thomas, was 25, and her mother, Ella, was 21. She married Doyle Wesley Bailey on June 4, 1933. They had one child during their marriage. She died on September 18, 2000, in Kensett, Arkansas, at the age of 85, and was buried in Searcy, Arkansas.
