Maurine B. Summitt passed away at the home of her son, Paul Summitt, in Niceville, Fla., on June 26, 2008, at the age of 102. She is also survived by her son, James Summitt; his wife, Eileen and their son Bill of Niceville. Her husband, Dr. William Knox Summitt, and eldest son, William Weston Summitt, predeceased her. She was a cherished part of the lives of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many friends.
Mrs. Summitt was a native of Columbia, Mo., but spent most of her life in Searcy, Ark., where she and her husband raised a family and were a part of the Harding College community. She was a retired Arkansas teacher, having taught first grade and remedial reading for many years. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the White County Memorial Cemetery in Searcy.
