Howard Franklin Cumbie, resident of Searcy went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of 83.
Mr. Cumbie was born August 31, 1924 in Hope, Arkansas, the son of James Terrell and Ruth Ellen Woodul Cumbie. He was a graduate of Hope High School and attended Henderson State College.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a former Boy Scout leader. Howard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening, and cattle farming throughout his life. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Little Red RV Club. Howard retired from Natural Gas Pipeline of America after 35 years as a district clerk. He was an active member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Searcy where he was involved in the development and building of the current church facility. Howard had an absolute love for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bobbie Gentry Cumbie of Searcy; two sons, Mike Cumbie and wife, Aven of Wichita, Kansas and Randy Dupuy of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Ruth Ann Bruce and Dorotha Faye Huckabee both of Hope; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2509 W. Beebe-Capps Expwy, Searcy, AR 72143.
