Ruby Irene Owen, 88, of Sherwood died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, after an extended illness.
Born September 18, 1920, one of ten children of Milow and Sarah Beaver of Pleasant Plains, she graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1941.
She is survived by her sister, Modean Key of Linden, TX; her two children, Harry Ettling of New York City and Cindy Bandy, wife of Dr. Larry Bandy of Little Rock; and her four grandchildren, Christopher Franke, of Washington DC, Owen Franke of Memphis, and Austin, and Caren Franke, both of Little Rock.
Funeral services will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on Monday, July 13 at 9 AM with Reverend Miles Cook officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. Burial will be at noon at Roosevelt Cemetery, in Pleasant Plains. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband of 30 years, John P. Owen.
Mrs. Owen was very active in Park Hill Christian Church and in many social and charitable organizations.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who also enjoyed traveling with her friends from Grand Escape Tours, with whom she visited most of the 50 states, including Alaska.
After her children and grandchildren, one of her greatest joys was the home she helped her husband design and build in 1978, and where she lived for most of the last 30 years of her life.
In addition to her fun-loving personality, she will be remembered by her many friends and family members as a woman of great strength, compassion and generosity.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Chenal Heights Nursing Home for their loving and compassionate care, which gave her great comfort in her final days in this world. We know that heaven now has a very special new angel.
