Alfred A Smith was born 14 Oct 1929 In Lufkin, TX to Clarence J and Ethel Graham Smith. He died 06 Sep 2013 at his home in Camden, AR. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Addyson Jean Villani. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Jean Stockton Smith. Two sons, Stephen Alfred (Tommie) Smith, Mark Douglas (Brenda) Smith and four grand children, Stephen Shaddox (Shannon) Smith, Krista Michelle Smith, Katy Smith Villani and Brittney (Ryan) Jay. Five Great grandchildren, Alyssa Villani, Aubryn Villani, Anastasia Smith, James Alfred Smith and Hannah Jay.

Alfred started his working years at the Red Hill School providing water for the school for the payment of 20 cents a week when he was 7 years old. He continued his working career at 12 years of age selling peanuts at Chidester school ball games for 5 cents for a cup. He graduated from Chidester High School in 1948 where he excelled in Basketball. He attended Southern State University in Magnolia where he played football and is a member of the Golden Mule Riders. He transferred to the University of Central Arkansas. He worked summers at International Paper Company. He joined the Arkansas National Guard in 1948 where he served until 1955 when he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He worked for the Arkansas National Guard as Administrative Officer at the Camden Armory until 1954 when he joined the Harry Lindsey Poultry Company as manager and retired in 1987 to manage his Purina Feed Store. He retired the second time in 1992 when he was elected the Ouachita County Judge and served three terms. He served as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church and belonged to the Gideon's. He was a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner. He served on the Baptist Medical System Foundation board of directors, Ouachita Electric and Arkansas Electric board of directors for 35 years, and was currently serving on the Ouachita River Commission.

Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held Monday, 09 Sep 2013 at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church Camden. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
