Bert Harris Tutt, died on October 13, 2012, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family and her memories in the home built by her late husband, William Harold Tutt.
Bert was born on September 25, 1919, in Clark County, AR, the daughter of William Miles Harris and Texa Porterfield Harris. She lived in Camden for most of her life.
She graduated from Camden High School in 1937 and attended Henderson State Teacher’s College for 2 years. In 1939 she married Harold, the love of her life, and in 2009 they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Bert and Harold had a small lake house that Harold built on Mustin Lake in Camden where they spent much of their time. She and Harold spent many an afternoon cruising up and down the lake on their barge, often inviting friends and family members to join them. Bert had a passion for fishing and would troll the lake for hours. If she had any trouble on the lake, she signaled Harold with a bicycle horn to come rescue her.
Gardening and bird-watching were two of her favorite pastimes. She always put food out on her many feeders and spent hours identifying the variety of birds that flocked to her garden.
Bert was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Camden. She had a deep love for her church and remained heavily involved for most of her life. She made new friends everywhere she went. She never met a stranger, and her warm friendliness was sincere and unassuming.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, an infant son, and her beloved Harold.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Mashburn (Ben) and Ellen Kay Tutt, son, Bill Tutt (Brenda), five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, family friend, John Wheeler, and wonderful caregivers, Frances Cross, Felishia Barker, Kathy Wilson, and Olivia Lockhart. The family is grateful to Jane Pessa and the Ouachita County Health Department Hospice for the loving care they provided.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Proctor Funeral Home. The memorial service is Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 2
