January 15, 1931 - January 25, 2020
James Carroll McConnell 89 of Camden AR, passed away on January 25th 2020 at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehab in Camden. He was born on January 15th 1931 at Booneville AR. to E.C. and Ethel McConnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents E.C. and Ethel McConnell and sisters, Beatrice McConnell and Betty Melton;brothers, Glenn and E.C. Jr. McConnell and daughter, Karen J. McConnell.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty McConnell: son, Jimmy McConnell (Theresa) and daughter, Elaine Taylor (Ron) all of Camden; granddaughters, Stephanie Tutor (Bobby) and Lindsey Webb (Russ) all of Camden and grandchildren, Mark Hopkins and Dustie Hopkins of Bearden; eleven great grandchildren, Ryan and Anna Clair Tutor of Fordyce, Carson and Maddox Wreyford, Payne, Avah and Jett Webb all of Camden and Paige Webb Sweetin (Taylor) of Conway and Joey and Jasper Byrge of Bearden and Beau Hopkins of Smackover, AR; sisters, Patsy Scott of Booneville, AR and Joyce Shigley of Arizona; several nieces and nephews.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was a Corpral Stationed on the 38th parrell as a medic until 1953. He was married August 17th 1954 and moved to Camden in September 1954 where he went to work for AP&L for 37 years and served as a Camden Volunteer Fire Fighter for 20 years.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. James never met a stranger. He helped start the Food Pantry, Good Samaritian and Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed wood working in his woodshop, working in his yard with his daylilies, hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at Fairview United Methodist Church or OCMC Hospice.
Funeral service will be 2:00PM Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitaion will be 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Reverend Kat Burchfield will officiate the services.
