SPRINGDALE — Ben T. Matthew, 75, of Springdale died Jan. 31, 1996 at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born June 25, 1920, at Cement, Okla., to Benjamin Franklin and Susan C. Gray Matthews. He moved to Northwest Arkansas in 1969 from California and was a retired independent truck driver. He served in the Navy Seabees as a petty officer in the 73rd Battalion during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Irene McLain Matthews of the home, to whom he was married April 20, 1940; three sons, Myron Matthews of Springdale, Thurman Matthews of Houston, Texas and Paul Matthew of Skiatook, Okla.; one daughter, Pam Hobbs of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Edna Wallis of El Paso, Texas, and Bertha Thompson of Duncan, Okla.; seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sisco Chapel in Springdale with Paul Woodhouse officiating. Burial will he in Friendship Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steven Matthew, Chris Matthews, Bryan Ball, Scott Hobbs, Steve Henderson, Andy Matthews and Kevin Matthews.
