Hazel Porter Benton, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2014. She passed away at Olive Grove Terrace, The Arbors unit after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born on April 7, 1932 in Dalark, AR. She graduated Valedictorian in 1950 from Fairview High School in Camden, AR. She went to work at Ouachita Electric Cooperative in 1954 and held numerous positions until her retirement in 1994. She was a long time member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 69 years.
Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll Dean Porter; her second husband, Paul S. Benton of Camden, AR; her parents, Homer and Hattie Amis of Camden, AR; and her father and mother in law, Carl Porter of Sparkman, AR and Edith Porter of Camden, AR.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Vicki Porter Dilworth and her husband, Lucian of Olive Branch, MS; two grandsons, Chris Jeffus and wife, Keena of Little Rock, AR and Jeff Dilworth and wife, Susan of El Dorado, AR; two granddaughters, Kenna Jeffus and life partner, Tonya Elrod of Olive Branch, MS and Amy Fowler and husband, Cory of Pittsburgh, PA; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, William (Bill) Amis and wife, Betty of Culver City, CA; two nieces, Pam Burkett and husband, Steve of Venture, CA and Patti Massey of Marina del Rey, CA; two great nieces, two great nephews, and two great-great nephews as well as a host of other family and friends.
Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Proctor Funeral Home followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
