August 25, 1899 - July 29, 1967
S. O. Shirey, aged 67, of 661 Chestnut Street, a retired former Lion Oil distributor, died at 12:40 a.m. at the Camden Hospital following surgery. Mr. Shirey was a well known South Arkansas sportsman. Mr. Shirey came to Camden from Columbia County back in the oil boom days of the twenties. Prior to entering the Lion Oil distributorship, he operated a Shell station on South Adams. During the years Mr. Shirey developed a keen interest in hunting and fishing and had a camp house on Lake Greeson near Murfreesboro. He was taken ill on a fishing trip this past Wednesday. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Proctors Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, two daughters; Mrs. Chris Andritsos of Camden, and Mrs. David Townsend of Tyler, Texas, and one son Jack of Camden, who now operates the Lion Oil disrtibutor.
