Mary Ann FRIZZELL

October 7, 1921 - January 25, 2013


Mary Ann Knight Frizzell, 91, of Maumelle, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock. Mrs. Frizzell was born October 7, 1921 in Camden, the daughter of Kiro Kendrick and Dixie Dunn Knight. She was a Methodist, an avid gardener, professional Mother and Blue Ribbon Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother.

Mary Ann grew up in Camden along with her family. She met Louis Frizzell as a young man there where he worked for Camark Pottery. They married in 1940 and shortly after their union Louis went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. They had two very young children when Louis joined the US Navy and served during WWII in the Pacific leaving Mary Ann, like many young women of her time, home to raise the children. She did so with great purpose and care- never overwhelmed by her responsibilities, but rather rising to her duties as mother and military wife. She sold war bonds during the war and received a commendation for her outstanding contribution to the war effort. She never raised her voice to her children and instead raised them with the same quiet and calm dignity and grace that inspires them to this day. After Louis returned in 1945 and continued his work for the railroad they had another child and raised their three children together. Mary Ann devoted her life to her family as a wonderful mother, beautiful wife, and volunteer. She taught Sunday school, she was a Girl Scout troop leader, and served as the PTA president. She believed in gifts of service often lending her domestic skills in sewing and cooking to anyone in need and had many friends who cherished her kind and loyal demeanor. As grandmother and great grandmother she was who everyone turned to for a non-judgmental loving ear to listen, a small but strong shoulder to cry on, and comforting warm hugs and kisses. She was everyone’s favorite playmate. She was never too busy to stop whatever she was doing to sit down and join the children for a game of go fish, old maid, piecing together jigsaw puzzles, playing trains, princesses, horses, and most recently transformers. As in her youth she lived her later years completely devoted to her beloved friends and family. A card was always sent with love and birthdays were never missed or forgotten no matter how distant those loved ones might have been. Her family knew without question that they were all adored by their Mamma, Maw, or Gigi. She will be so deeply missed here but we, her family, are so comforted by thoughts of the celebration going on in Heaven with her arrival there.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis B. Frizzell, grandson, Louis Peyton, great grandson, Louis Peyton, Jr., two brothers, and five sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary K. Peyton and husband, Fred and Sandra Bishop all of Maumelle; son, Ken Frizzell and wife, Jean of North Little Rock; grandsons, Rev. Tom Frizzell, Jason Frizzell, granddaughters, Cindy Hilton, and Allison Winningham; adopted grandson, Matthew Cline; six great grandchildren Caitlin and Olivia Frizzell, Billy and Mary B. Hilton, and Madeline and Tucker Winningham; as well as one great great grandchild, McKynlee Hilton.

Mrs. Frizzell’s funeral will be held at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, Arkansas. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30, from 12:30 until 2 and her Memorial Service will begin at 2. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Proctor Funeral Home of Camden is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Maumelle.
