Imo Story Jennings
August 1, 1918 - September 15, 2014

*Obituary
Imo Jennings of Russellville, AR, age 96, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Monday, September 15, 2014, at the Hospice Hospital in Tyler, TX.

She was born August 1, 1918, in Hector, AR and was the only child of Rev. Eugie, an ordained Assembly of God Minister, and his wife, Myrtle Story.

Imo had a deep faith and spent her whole life in the service of her Lord. She graduated from Russellville High School in 1938. She met her future husband, Clifton B. Jennings, at Arkansas Polytechnic College, now Arkansas Tech University, and they were married on May 3, 1941. She was a World War II bride and followed Clifton to San Antonio, TX, where her husband was with the 206th Coast Artillery Arkansas National Guard. After the birth of their first daughter, Clifton B. was deployed to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and Imo moved back to Russellville. After the War, she moved with her family to North Little Rock, where her husband took a job with the U.S. Postal Service. It was in North Little Rock, their second daughter was born.

During those years, Imo stayed very active with her daughters and with the Assembly of God Church. She worked with the Girl Scouts of America, and helped with the Shriner’s Sunshine Group, which was a group of young people, including her two daughters, who entertained around the State for the Masonic Shriners.

In 1961, Imo and her family moved back to Russellville. She again attended the Russellville Assembly of God Church and was an active member of the Church AY’s group. Her hobbies included China Painting, Ceramics, Flower Arranging and Needlework with Arts and Crafts. She participated in the Arts and Craft Guilds and juried applicants for the annual Arts and Crafts Fair, held each year at Tucker Coliseum, on ATU’s campus. She and her husband had a booth for many years at the Fair.

Imo was the ultimate hostess. She always welcomed guests into her home on Lake Dardanelle. She was an avid cook and made Holidays very special for her family and friends. She was one of the founding members of the “Domino Dollies”, a group of ladies who loved to play Dominos each week at her home.

In 2014, the Russellville Assembly of God Church honored her at the Church’s 100 yrs. Anniversary, as being the oldest surviving member of the congregation. As her health began to fail, she moved to Texas to an Assisted Living Facility. With her sweet smile and humbleness, she was a joy to those who loved her.

Imo was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, who died September the 28th, 1996, Clifton B. Jennings, and her parents Rev. Eugie and Myrtle Story.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharron Cain and husband Howard, of Lowell, AR and Sandi Sweeden and husband Jim, of Tyler TX., three grandsons, Trey Cain and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville, AR, Blakeney Cain of Springdale, AR, and Steven Sweeden and wife Laura of Louisville, KY; four granddaughters, Destari Brant and husband Andy of Edmond, OK, Chancy Cowan of Delta, CO, Bethany Sweeden of Austin, TX and Jennifer Gardner and husband Steve of Valley View, TX.; nine great grandsons, Trevor Cain of Benton, AR, Dylan Murray of Nantucket, MA, Paden Green of Edmond, OK, Braxton Cain of Springdale, AR, Easton and Edmund Brant both of Edmond, OK, Tyler and Jacob Sweeden both of Louisville, KY, and Chad Mathews of Avon, IN; and one great granddaughter, McKenzie Downer of Fayetteville, AR.
