Vernon Claude Godwin, 103, of Heber Springs, formerly of Strawberry, passed away early Monday, April 16, 2012.

Born March 25, 1909 at Saffell, son of Wesley and Kate Rainey Godwin. He was an inspector for U. S. Steel in California.

He was united in marriage to Tommy Peterson March 14, 1998 who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Colleen Johnson.

Survivors include a son, Bill Polston of Pleasant View, Colorado; a daughter, Janice Benscotter of Antioch, California; seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryan Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at College Station, Ark.
