Griffithville Soldier Killed In Plane Accident Sunday

S-Seg: Lee Houston of Griffithville, was injured fatally when a light plane he and another soldier occupied fell near Griffithville at about 7 p.m. Sunday. S-Segt. Alfred Pool of Georgia was the other occupant.

The plane is said to have taken off and had climbed to about 200 feet when it fell. Apparently the plane's motor failed. The soldiers were both on three-day passes and were stationed at Perrin Field, Sherman Texas.

Both occupants were taken to a local hospital, Sergeant Hamilton having been later moved in a Daniel ambulance to Fort Roots Hospital, Little Rock, where he passed away at 8 a.m. Monday. Sgt. Pool, who is in the Rodgers Hospital received serious injuries but is much improved today.

Sgt. Hamilton enlisted in the U.S Navy when he was 17, spending 25 months in the South Pacific. Later he enlisted in the 82nd Airborne Division and made about 30 parachute jumps. After serving 18 months he re-enlisted in the American Air Force for three years, having served three months at the time of his death.

Also surviving are three brothers, James of Searcy, Douglas of the Army Air Forces: and Earl Paul of Griffithville; and two sisters, Mres, Erne Dussinger of Reading, Pa., and Mary Frances Hamilton of the home.

Services at the Griffithville Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Robert Howerton. Interment will be in the West Point cemetery with the Daniel funeral home in charge.
