Lodema "Petie" Hazel Jensen, age 94, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017, at home. She was born on September 16, 1923, in the Glencoe/Salem area of Fulton County, Arkansas to Clarence Edward and Blanche Billingsley Cozort.

Petie, as she was known to her friends, was involved in many facets of the Russellville community, both civic and social. She was a member of Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Mid-South Watercolorists Association, and the Arkansas River Valley Arts Center. As a long-time member of First Christian Church, she served as treasurer and sang in the choir for many years. She was described as having an unbelievable zest for life and was always ready to volunteer for projects.

Best known for her large colorful watercolors, Lodema's work is known both locally and nationally and graces many private collections. Magnolia blossoms were one of her favorite subjects. Having lived in several western states and Mexico, a southwest influence can be seen in many of her paintings. She earned an art degree in 1945 from Valley City Teachers College in North Dakota, and her Master's Degree in 1972 from Texas A&I University. She was the first artist to be inducted as artist of the year by the Arkansas River Valley Arts Center in 2007.

Lodema married Walter Allen Jensen, a Navy pilot, and had two children, David Allen Jensen and Pamela Liana Jensen. The family traveled extensively, living in many different states and in the Philippines. After retiring from the Navy, the family moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, where Lodema enjoyed painting, amateur theatrics, and traveling.

Upon retirement, they returned to Russellville to be close to family. Lodema and her sister, Juanita Luesson had their own sewing business for many years. In addition to making wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and pageant gowns, they constructed almost fifty children's costumes for the musical show, Annie.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Allen Jensen; and a brother, Rodney Cozort.

Survivors include a son, David Jensen of Buda, Texas; a daughter, Pamela Jensen of Buda, Texas; her sister, Juanita Luessen of Russellville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Dennis Cesarz of Plain City, Ohio, William and Shannon Jensen of Austin, Texas, Chelsea and Eric Palmer of Buda, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2017, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Thom Walker officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
