Nelson F. Wheatley, age 76 of Saratoga, Arkansas passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born on July 9, 1942 in Branch Land, West Virginia the son of the late Nelson and Beulah Mae Conn Wheatley.
Mr. Wheatley was a member of the Columbus Baptist Church in Columbus, Arkansas, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Vietnam Veterans Association. He retired from the United States Army, served 42 months in Vietnam, 3 tours in Germany and various other postings throughout the world. In his many years of serving the country he was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, 3 awards for the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 10 campaign stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Assault Badge and various other medals and awards.
He married his wife Linda Moton Wheatley on January 20, 1973; they were married for forty-five years.
Survivors include his wife Linda Moton Wheatley of Saratoga, AR; two daughters Connie Cooper and husband Tom of DeKalb, TX; Rebecca Lavender of Hope, AR; two grandchildren Garrett Stokes and wife Jessica of DeKalb, TX; Emily Hinton and husband Jerald of DeKalb, TX; three grandsons Daniel Stokes, Jacob Stokes, and Dagonae Hinton all of DeKalb, TX.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 11, at Saratoga Cemetery, with Bro. David Raulerson officiating. Under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
