FAYETTEVILLE - William Thomas "Tommy" Wood, 70, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away on June 27, 2012, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born on June 19, 1942, in Fayetteville, the son of Woodrow and Pearl Wood.

Tommy was a men's hairstylist and had worked in the Fayetteville and Harrison area until he was forced to retire in 1979 due to a car accident which disabled him.

Tommy was called to preach the word of God at the young age of 16. He had spent his life involved in several churches in the Northwest Arkansas and River Valley area helping spread the word of God and giving his time to outreach programs in the community. Tommy and wife Celia were awarded the Angel Award from the mayor of Fort Smith, Ray Baker, for their selfless community work. Tommy and wife Celia volunteered their time to the First Assembly of God Church in Van Buren's Search and Rescue Christian Outreach Program and the Bag of Hope Christian Outreach Program. Tommy always valued his time and the remarkable people he had met in his community work and he felt very honored to have known all of the wonderful people he had met during his time.

Tommy enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, watching his beloved Gaither videos, taking his yearly trips to Florida with his wife, fishing, and he enjoyed a good home-cooked meal.

Survivors include his wife, Celia Wood of the home; two sisters, Katherine Lacy of Fayetteville and Etta Phillips of Little Rock; four daughters, Elizabeth Wood of Fayetteville, Temple Ashbaugh and husband John of Mountainburg, Tracy Benson and husband Mike of Hindsville, Shelby McAfee and husband Jackie of Siloam Springs; nine grandchildren, John Ashbaugh II, Josh Ashbaugh, Jese Ashbaugh, Josie Ashbaugh, Jett Ashbaugh, Quincie Benson, Evan Benson, Jackson McAfee and Dalton McAfee.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Christian Lighthouse, 1102A Schmieding Ave., Springdale, Ark. Service will follow at 2 p.m at Christian Lighthouse.
