Mr. Robert Calvin McDoniel of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the age of eighty-one. He was born November 14, 1937 in Newark, the son of Robert Alton and Lilly S. (Weaver) McDoniel. On June 11, 1964, Mr. Robert Calvin McDoniel married Miss Sarah Lee Backus, and together they spent 55 years.
Mr. McDoniel spent his time working as a carpenter and farm hand, and enjoyed hunting and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. McDoniel was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, James, and Tim McDoniel; and two sisters, Hava Brooks and Ida Mae Dugger.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Lee McDoniel of the home; one son, Robert J. McDoniel of Newark; one daughter Susan Reeves of Newark; two brothers, Wallace McDoniel and wife, Lois of Newark, and Jim McDoniel and wife, Bobbie, of Newark; two sisters, Barbara Britton and husband, Billy, of Newark, and Juanita Bainbridge of Newark; one grandchild, John Calvin McDoniel and wife, Sabrina; one great-grandchild, Marlie Gray McDoniel; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Sunday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Fredonia Cemetery at Mountain View.
