When Thelma Elizabeth Lee was born on December 15, 1904, in Lepanto, Arkansas, her father, John, was 24, and her mother, Edna, was 20. She married Elbert Lee Smith on September 12, 1923, in Arkansas. They had four children during their marriage. She died on May 26, 1990, in her hometown at the age of 86, and was buried there.
