February 19, 1912 - September 24, 1965
James Oliver Hughes, 53, of Rt. 1 Mt. Holly died in a local hospital Friday afternoon following a short illness. Hughes was born in Union County on Feb. 19, 1912 and was the son of John Louis and Mattie I. Rodgers Hughes. He was a former employe of the Mt. Holly Lumber Co. and was a lifelong resident of Union County. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include two brothers, J. S. Hughes of McGehee and Ross Hughes of Mt. Holly and three sisters, Mrs. Lola Crumpler of Village, Mrs. Ann Tissue of Mt. Holly and Mrs. Ema Nalls of Yoakum, Tex. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bethel Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Mann and Rev. Richard Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Rowell Davis, Roy Marcus Williams, Cleo Eubanks, Colon Watson, Aubrey Barksdale and Wade Wilson. The body will remain at the mortuary until the time of the service. The family is at the Roy Tissue home. (The El Dorado Times - September 25, 1965)
