Emma Kathryn Spears Capps, 88, born April 8, 1922, passed away in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011.

She was the daughter of Robert Manual and Florence Joiner Spears.

A lifelong resident of Poinsett County, Kathryn graduated in the 1941 class of Marked Tree High School.

She was married to Lee Edgar Capps for 35 years. Kathryn loved being a farmer's wife and member of the Church of God, both in Lepanto and Marked Tree.

She was a devoted wife, friend, stepmother and grandmother, and she was known as "Aunt Kat" to the many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; stepson, Jimmy Capps; stepdaughter, Shirley Alley; and grandsons, Lloyd Kenneth Alley Jr. and Kerry Glenn Alley. Her brothers and sisters who lived in the area and who have also preceded her in death were Norman, Guy, Elmer, Lela, Herman and Talmadge Spears.

Kathryn is survived by her sister, Naoma Lou Spears Sampson; grandchildren, Kevin Lee Alley, Andrea Kay Alley and Lisa Capps; and great-granddaughter, Kendra Alley. She is also survived by a host of devoted and loving nieces and nephews, Robert (Judy) Spears, Richard Spears, Norman (Margaret) Spears, Charles (Maury) Spears, Constance (Gary) Bachman, Rebecca (David) Climer, Sharon Spears, Peggy (Rudy) Nevez, Betty (Ken) Petty, Brenda DeVore, LuDonna Yeargain and Sandra deSantiago.

Murphy Funeral Home in Marked Tree were in charge of the arrangments.

Burial was in Potter Memorial Cemetery.
