Mrs. Betty Jo Penney Janes, age 73, resident of De Queen, died Friday, January 25, 2002 at her home. She was born to Millard Thomas, Sr. and Lillie Nolen Penney at De Queen, Arkansas, on August 5, 1928. She was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church of De Queen, a member of the Gideons Auxiliary; a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, and was member of De Queen Chapter 2078 of the AARP, and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Erman Tam Penney and Kenneth Penney; three sisters: Ethel Whiles; Sally Locke; and Margaret Libbee.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dale F. Janes of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law: Nolen and Linda Janes of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren: Jason Janes and Tina Janes both of Arlington, Texas; one brother: Millard T. "Man" Penney of Lee's Summit, Missouri; one sister: Christine Long of Bridge City, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Janes were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2002 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating.
Burial followed in Redmen Cemetery, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 713, De Queen, AR.
