When Rose Etta Comstock was born on August 3, 1888, in Paragould, Arkansas, her father, Benjamin, was 39, and her mother, Lucy, was 15. She married James Thomas Carpenter on December 4, 1902, in Kennett, Missouri. They had seven children in 16 years. She died on December 18, 1975, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 87.

When James Thomas Carpenter was born on October 9, 1881, in Warren, Kentucky, his father, George, was 21 and his mother, Tennessee, was 18. He married Rose Etta Comstock on December 4, 1902, in Kennett, Missouri. They had seven children in 16 years. He died on July 5, 1948, in Lepanto, Arkansas, at the age of 66.
