Roxie Elizabeth “Bettie” Ussery was born on October 20, 1875, in Mississippi. She married Joseph Summers Appling in 1900. They had six children in 14 years. She died on February 27, 1953, at the age of 77, and was buried in Lepanto, Arkansas.

When Joseph Summers Appling was born on July 8, 1875, in Byhalia, Mississippi, his father, George, was 34 and his mother, Lucy, was 29. He married Roxie Elizabeth “Bettie” Ussery in 1900. They had six children in 14 years. He died on July 29, 1957, at the age of 82, and was buried in Lepanto, Arkansas.
