Selma Couch Ramsay, 82, a resident of Russellville, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. She was born September 29, 1928, at Pine Bluff to Pierce Whaley and Ora Cornelia Cook Couch. She received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1946 and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. She married Ward Jennings Ramsay on November 26, 1949, in Pine Bluff. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Russellville, where she was a Cornerstone Sunday school teacher and a member, leader and mentor of the Sunshine Gang Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Russellville Culture Club and the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter AH. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Randell Claire Ramsay and a sister, Dorothy Couch Foster. Selma was known by family and friends as a very giving and loving person.

As a devoted Christian, she touched many lives. Her charm and warmth immediately drew people to her both in her daily life and in her church participation. The first love of her life was her husband, Ward, of the past 61 years. Selma's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She will be missed and remembered for her daily walk with the Lord.

Survivors include her husband, Ward J. Ramsay of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Raye and Dr. Finley P. Turner II of Russellville; three grandchildren, Adrienne Lea Short and her husband, Wilson, Joy Elise Turner and Finley Pascal "Bubba" Turner III and his wife, Christie; and four great-grandchildren, Ramsay Corder Short, Gene Weston Short, Addyson Grace Turner and Banks Alexander Turner.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Scroggin and the Rev. Gail Baldwin officiating, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class and members of the Sunshine Gang Women's Circle. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 304 South Commerce Avenue, Russellville, Arkansas 72801 or the ATU Wesley Foundation, 1111 North El Paso Avenue, Russellville, Arkansas 72801.
