Mr. Edwin Virgil Ahrent, 94, of Corning, AR., passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Corning Therapy and Living Center in Corning. Mr Ahrent was born in Corning, AR., on June 14, 1919. He a carpenter by trade, he was extremely active in his community, he was a past city council member and city building inspector, he served as Wynn Park Commissioner for many years, he was past 4th of July grand marshal, he helped to organize many 4th of July Homecoming picnics and Harvest festivals and spearheaded the placing of flags on each veterans grave in all the area cemeteries on Memorial Day each year. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in the Pacific Theater/Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was a member and past Quarter-Master of the Veteren's of Foriegn War, Papert-Poynor Post # 8347 in Corning. He was a life-long member and past organist of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning.

He was married to his wife of 49 years Rosemary (Hickman) Ahrent on June 5, 1963, she preceded him in death on May 18, 2013.

He is survived by two brothers Herb Ahrent of Corning, AR., Louis Ahrent of Corning, AR.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents Fredrick John and Dorthea Ernestine (Allmandinger) Ahrent; two brothers Vernon Ahrent, Martin Ahrent and one sister Ruth Letterman.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning, AR., with Reverend Jon Bischof officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Corning Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Ermert Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning.

Mrs. Rosemary (Hickman) Ahrent, 91, of Corning, AR., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Mrs. Ahrent was born in Little Rock, AR., on June 26, 1921. She was a retired Librarian from the Corning School District. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning.

She married her husband Edwin Virgil Ahrent on June 5, 1963, He survives; she is also survived by a niece Robin Carrol.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter C. and Rilla (Johnson) Hickman; brother Robert James Hickman, niece Rachel and nephew Jim.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church with Reverend Jon Bischof officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Corning Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
