October 7, 1822 - November 26, 1895

John A. Toney, son of Elijah and Mary Toney, was born in Smith County, Tenn., October 7, 1822; was married to Miss Virgina High July 18, 1844 and in the autumn of the same year moved to Ouachita County, AR, and died at his home near Millville, in the same county, November 26, 1995. He graduated from Clinton College, Tenn., studied law with Judge McClain at Carthage, but abandoned the legal profession and became a planter. He received a wound in the battle of Corinth on October 4, 1862. Survived by his widow and only one daughter, Mrs. Dr. Foldin of Holly Springs. His former pastor, James E. Caldwell.
