WEST FORK — Delmar Ferrell, West Fork, Ark., Sept. 14, 1938, to Aug. 10, 2017. Delmar Ferrell would like to let you know that his work here on earth is done. He received his call on Thursday, Aug. 10 for a heavenly appointment which he previously scheduled from which he will not be returning.
This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be worshiping, praising the Lord, hugging his mom, meeting up with family and friends that have gone on before him, meeting His Savior and running on streets of gold.
Delmar is survived by his childhood sweetheart Sherry Ferrell. In November 2017 they would've been married 61 years.
His daughter DeAnn Risley and husband Tracey of West Fork. His son David Ferrell and his wife Kelly also of West Fork. He also left behind his greatest earthly treasure... his grandchildren, Justin Risley and his wife Dawnetta, Jordyn and husband Nick Brill, Rachel and her husband Zack Merrick, Jassa and her husband Charley Gardner, and Joshua Ferrell, three great-grandsons: Brayden, Kaegan, and Corbyn Risley.
Delmar grew up in Rogers, Ark., and graduated from Arkansas Tech. He worked as a coach, teacher, and administrator in many school districts including West Fork, Farmington, Greenland, and Shiloh Christian. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in West Fork where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 45 years. He served as Fayetteville Police Department chaplain and the Washington County Sheriff's chaplain for over 10 years.
He loved competing in the Senior Olympics, where he won an embarrassing amount of First Place medals. He regularly gave blood and over the years had given 41 donations. He loved supporting St. Jude's and he and his grandchildren participated in the bike-a-thons for many years. He and his wife Sherry started a scholarship fund at West Fork High School to aid in West Fork students attending college. Delmar's greatest joy in life was to see others come to know Christ. He has led countless people to the Lord, and planted seeds in many others.
Delmar always challenged his Sunday School Class to be FAT, (Faithful, Available, and Teachable). He lived that out in every area. The family is very certain that when he entered Heaven he got his very much desired "high five" from the Lord, followed by "Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into My Kingdom". He will be missed by many, but will be reunited with those who believe. He would also want everyone to have a Super Day!
Come celebrate his life with his family and friends on Friday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with video overflow in the Family Life Center. Visitation will be at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Fork First Baptist Church, West Fork High School Care and Share Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children's Hospital. To sign the online guest book please visit www.nelsonberna.com.
